Who we are
Bluebox Energy was founded to put hot air turbines on real heat sources — biomass, waste-to-energy, pyrolysis and solar — with the heat still useful after the power. In parrallel, we develop and integrate steam systems and control systems for the Bluebox range and bespoke applications.
Our story
In 2014 Jon McGuire left Bowman Power, where he had led turbogenerator and turbocharger programmes into series production, to start Bluebox Energy. The idea was simple: take proven high-speed machine and power-electronics skill and apply it to waste heat that still has a job to do.
Since then the team has grown and is supported by engineers from Ricardo, Rolls-Royce, Bowman and university research — covering controls, aerodynamics, rotor dynamics, CAD and electrical machines. We work from Daedalus Business Park in Lee-on-the-Solent.
Today we supply hot air turbines, steam and control systems, and the consulting that packages them into working plants or help you develop bespoke applications.
The team
Whilst at Bowman Power as Engineering Director, Jon led the first prototype E-Turbocompound system for John Deere, then the commercialisation of the G108 turbogenerators now in series production. In 2014 he left Bowman to start Bluebox Energy.
Joined Bluebox in 2015 after Ricardo and strategic consulting in Brazil. Controls, programme management and business development — from hybrid demonstrators to Mégane RS production programmes.
Former Head of Turbine and Combustor Technology at Rolls-Royce small engines, then Head of Turbine Aerothermal at BMW-Rolls-Royce. Continues on micro-gas turbines, turbogenerators and high-efficiency fans.
Plain, rolling-element and air/gas bearings — including MELFI on the ISS, Atlas Copco turbo-compressors and ORC turbogenerators at up to 70 000 rpm.
Joined Bluebox in 2025 to develop his expertise in Controls and automation. Archie also actively supports systems build and installation while developping in skills in CAD work.
High-speed machines for marine thrusters, ORC and turbogenerators. Lead designer for Bowman’s 270 kW turbogenerator.
